A few things that I love tie this post together: Environmentalism, Beauty & Giving. Aveda, together with their salons, spas, stores, institutes and guests, raises money each year to contribute to environmental causes around the world. "In honor of Earth Day, Aveda has set aside a whole month to love, celebrate and raise funds to protect the earth and its peoples." Since 1999, Aveda has raised over $26 million, $20 million of which goes towards local and international clean water causes.
I was asked to join in their cause this past April for Earth Month, by volunteering my photography to help a local salon, Namaste, who put on a fashion show titled Earth, Wind & Hair. The show highlighted their unique and earthy yet vibrant and edgy aesthetic, which I absolutely love. I didn't photograph the show itself because I was chosen as their "behind the scenes" photographer, which was a complete honor, very fitting and delighted me even more than documenting the show itself. Often times with art, I feel connected to the creative process more than the final product because I love witnessing the decision making, the collaboration and the transformation leading up to an event.
In the end, Namaste raised close to $2000 through this event, which benefited Western Resource Advocates, a Colorado based non-profit geared towards protecting the West's land, air and water. I was honored and happy to donate my time to help with this incredible cause, and super impressed with the hair, make-up and fashion. Below are some of my favorite images from the day. Enjoy!
